LAS VEGAS, SEPTEMBER 20, 2023—Boingo Wireless, a total connectivity provider of distributed antenna systems (DAS), Wi-Fi and private networks, today announced that its CEO Mike Finley will deliver the keynote address at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Las Vegas on Wednesday, September 27 at 10 a.m. The keynote will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first commercial cellphone call and explore the cultural impact of wireless connectivity. That first call took place on October 13, 1983 from Soldier Field, Chicago’s iconic sports and entertainment stadium. In the four decades that followed, the mobile industry took off, forever changing business, culture and the economy.
Boingo has served as Soldier Field’s connectivity provider for nearly 20 years, keeping the stadium at the forefront of innovation throughout the modern mobile era. Boingo’s state-of-the-art cellular and Wi-Fi networks support all Tier One carriers to connect fans, coaches and staff. Most recently Boingo launched 5G, giving Soldier Field guests fast connection speeds for viewing instant replays, live streaming, mobile ticketing and more.
“Soldier Field is etched into the history of the mobile revolution,” said Finley. “As we enter a new era of innovation and connectivity, neutral, converged networks leveraging cellular and Wi-Fi technologies are creating new opportunities, new experiences, new possibilities for people, business and society.”
The new Boingo Innovation Center in Las Vegas will host a special MWC event on September 26 with Sports Business Radio (SBR) and Kerry Bubolz, Las Vegas Golden Knights president and chief operating officer. SBR and its award-winning host Brian Berger will interview Bubolz on what it takes to launch the first major sports franchise in Las Vegas, the role of technology in sports, and the team’s historic run to win the 2023 Stanley Cup.
Boingo will be on stage throughout MWC Las Vegas. On September 26 at 3 p.m., Boingo Chief Commercial Officer Michael Zeto will present during the “Building Tomorrow’s City Today” session, dissecting the industry drivers and technologies enabling smart cities to flourish. Boingo Chief Technology Officer Dr. Derek Peterson will also present on convergence, private 5G and Wi-Fi 6/6E.
