Boingo Wins 2016 Leading Lights Award for “Most Innovative Wireless Service”

First Major Carrier Wi-Fi Roaming Partnership Receives Prestigious Telecom Industry Honor

LOS ANGELES – June 9, 2016 – Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ: WIFI), the leading DAS and Wi-Fi provider that serves consumers, carriers and advertisers worldwide, today announced that it has been honored as “Most Innovative Wireless Service” in the Light Reading 2016 Leading Lights Awards.

Leading Lights is the communications industry’s leading awards program, recognizing top companies and executives for outstanding achievements in next-generation communications technology, applications and services. Boingo received the 2016 honor for its launch of the first major carrier Wi-Fi roaming agreement with Sprint in locations across the United States. Sprint’s carrier Wi-Fi roaming, powered by Boingo, leverages Passpoint wireless standards to remove the barriers between cellular and Wi-Fi to make connecting as fast, automatic and secure as cellular in more than 35 high traffic airports nationwide. The service is anchored by Boingo’s upgraded, state-of-the-art networks, which ensure an optimal experience for customers and ample network capacity for carrier partners.

“We’re very proud to be recognized by the Leading Lights Awards for our Wi-Fi roaming partnership with Sprint, our second honor in three years from Light Reading,” said Derek Peterson, Ph. D., Boingo’s Chief Technology Officer. “The Boingo team has worked diligently with industry leaders for a number of years to develop, test, and be the first to market with Passpoint and carrier Wi-Fi roaming, a seemingly simple service that’s invisible to consumers. We’re thrilled to deliver these services to our partners and their customers, and to lead the industry to greater adoption of these important wireless standards.”

“The volume and quality of the entries we received across our 26 categories, which this year included specialist awards for 5G and Transformation strategies for the first time, shows how seriously the industry takes these awards, which are now in their 12th year,” stated Light Reading Editor-in-Chief Ray Le Maistre. “The winners can be rightly proud of their achievements and developments during the past year. It’s encouraging to see the innovation coming from such a broad range of communications service providers and technology developers,” added Le Maistre.

The 2016 honor is Boingo’s second Leading Lights Awards win. The company also received the 2014 Leading Lights Award for “Best Wi-Fi Network Operator” at the Wireless Broadband Alliance’s Wi-Fi Industry Awards.
